Glenn Ligon: Coloring

Forward by Kathy Halbreich, essays by Olukemi Ilesanmi and Wayne Koestenbaum, conversation with Joan Rothfuss and Glenn Ligon. The works presented in Coloring, held at the Walker Art Center in 2000, deal with history, language, gesture, childhood, and memory through a melancholy use of primary color. Iconic portraits are intelligently colored in order to examine themes of identity.
